Looking for a new cafe to try? Need some good coffee to start your day? Consider Lucky Lucky Cafe, a new spot on 13th Street and 5th Avenue, only two blocks from Rubin Hall, and a block away from The School of Professional Studies. Their hours are pretty flexible and work with any schedule.
It was move-in day for me, and as my family and I were driving to Rubin Hall, my mom spotted this cafe. I got a glimpse from the car window, and the environment drew me in. That was the day I, as a lover of all things coffee, decided I would walk into Lucky Lucky cafe and try their coffee.
In my opinion, they have very delicious coffee but they also offer many other drink options, like hot tea or matcha. I typically go for their iced vanilla lattes, but I recommend their strawberry matchas as well. Both the drinks have such a perfect flavor. The vanilla latte is consistently a perfect ratio of vanilla to coffee. The matcha is strong but not overpowering and the strawberry adds a really good balance of sweetness and the slight bitterness of the matcha.

If you’re not in the mood for coffee or tea, they also have non-caffeinated drinks. I would recommend their strawberry lemonade. It has the perfect blend of sour and sweet, and it is very refreshing, especially on a warm day. If you’re hungry, check out their food. They have many options, including pastries and bakery items, but also sandwiches, pizzas, and pastas. You can even build your own pizza using a list of toppings they have, and you can choose as many toppings as you want with an added price per topping. They have different meats, cheeses, and veggies as toppings. For the meats, you can choose between prosciutto, soppressata, chicken, and ham. For cheese you can choose from mozzarella, stracchino, parmesan, and truffle cream. For veggies you can choose from eggplant, mushrooms, tomatoes, olives, arugula, and basil pesto.
I once made a pizza with truffle cream, olives, and arugula, and it was to DIE for! If you have a sweet tooth they also have desserts, like tiramisu and sorbet.

If you're not in the mood for a full meal, I would definitely try their bakery items. Some of what they offer include butter croissants, cardamom buns, and truffle chocolate brownies. Personally, I love their croissants; they are incredibly soft and flaky.
In addition to the food and drinks, they have an incredible atmosphere as well. There is plenty of space for people to sit while still feeling cozy and comfortable. This cafe is an incredible place to pick up a coffee before a long day of work, or sit in with some of your friends. I have been to Lucky Lucky cafe with many of my friends, and all of them really loved it.
However, if you’re a student looking for a good study spot, this cafe is not one of those spots as they do not allow computers inside. While this is a downside for me, personally, it adds to the cafe’s ambiance and creates a space that feels more social and open. However, there are tables directly outside which are available to study at. I've sat outside at the tables to study when the weather was warm enough, and I really enjoyed it. Personally, I love to be able to study outside in the refreshing air, and I got a lot done as well.

Now, of course, I should bring up price ranges. In general, a coffee ranges between $2 to $6, depending on the kind you get, the size, and also if there is any added flavor syrups. Their food prices vary but most full meals range between $15 to $25. The pizza I made started at $12.99, but with toppings, it totaled to around $20. A pastry item costs around $4 to $5. Of course, there is added tax and any tips. Arguably I would say that maybe it’s a little expensive in general, but for New York City prices, it’s not entirely unreasonable. Plus, I think the quality of the food and drinks are worth the price!
Overall, I would recommend this cafe. I wouldn’t necessarily go all the time, but if I feel like I need to treat myself, it’s the number one cafe on my list, especially for their coffee. They have very good quality food and drinks, and the employees are all very sweet. I even spoke to one of them, just for fun, and she was simply the kindest!
